I guess I'll give a very brief bio about myself. I'm 24, and live in Alberta Canada. As much as I don't like to admit it am currently a student going into my third year of study in relation to accounting. I did my first two years of study in 16 months and I wouldn't dare recommend anyone put themselves through that kind of schedule. During my first two years I participated in three case competitions. Two of the case competitions were at school and the third was for CMA Alberta. The CMA case team was a competitive team to join so with that said I'm a fairly good student though certainly not the best one.
Apart from being focused on school, I have interest in gaming. I have a Wii and a Nintendo DS. I love playing both. I'll try just about any game to see if I like it or not. I haven't really decided if there is only one particular type of game I like to play yet. Most likely it'll remain that I'll be a varied gamer.
I also enjoy reading. I'm currently on a HUGE urban fantasy kick with the Southern Vampire Mysteries (otherwise known as the Sookie Stackhouse series, or the books that the TV show True Blood is based off of) being my favorite urban fantasy series currently. I also like to read mysteries, thrillers, mainstream, literary, classic, or pretty much anything as long as it's fiction.
If I'm not doing one of the above two activities you will most likely find me writing. Writing is something I absolutely love wholeheartedly. There isn't a reason in the world for me not to love it. I started writing plays when I was in second grade. I moved on to short stories when I was in 5th grade, and poetry when I was in 8th grade. In that time I've drifted away from plays, and short stories. I still write poetry though not nearly as much as I once did, and I'm currently working on a novel. The novel I'm working on won't be posted here on DA. I'm not willing to share it with the masses because I'm not sure what fate I will decide for the novel of whether it'll be something I just write for fun with no intentions of trying to publish, or if it'll be a piece that I do try to publish. So since it's destiny is unknown I won't risk putting it online.
I've also developed an interest in photography. It's something I've wanted to try for a while and finally acquired a camera that I felt would be useful to me as I try and progress with the hobby. I view photography right now as my hobby and writing as my passion. As to what you'll see more of here I'm not really sure.
Anyway I think this is a substantial enough intro into who I am, yet what I'm going to end up talking about is related to the introduction in some way.
Writing for me is something I would give almost anything to do for a full time career. I have a fairly good grasp on what my weaknesses are as a writer. I'm always analyzing my current story to see what needs to be tightened up, an what skills need to be polished. I will always aim to try and be a harsher critic on myself than a stranger. At the same time I know that I'll have blind spots so hopefully the stranger will point it out.
The current story I'm working on already has a title, and as cliche as it is, it's about Vampires. I suppose this isn't too surprising since my favorite urban fantasy series is about Vampires as well. The story I do have in mind though is going to more than one novel in length so it's a bit of a problem when I think about whether I should be sharing the story or not with people, and if I do share it do I share it with everyone or just a handful? Right now I'm sharing it with select people for feedback hoping they can help me spot some inconsistencies and such for when I go back and edit the piece. I'm treating it as a serious work in progress because I really don't know what will happen with the story. I don't even know what will happen to the fates of the other related novels I'm going to write. I already have two other plot ideas in mind, and a few companion short stories that are in mind for these characters.
Aside from my current work in progress I have various other urban fantasy ideas, and one romance. The romance won't be a novel. It will be a short story and I think that is going to be the most likely piece that will meet the eyes of anyone and everyone who ends up stumbling on it. I don't think it will be something I will seek out to publish. There's enough romance stories on the market that there really isn't a need to add another one, in my opinion.
Right now I'm lacking motivation. Not because I don't know what to write next for my chapter with my current work in process. It's more to do with the fact that I have so many ideas and so many that I want to work on that I want to work on all the ideas at once. I can't do that though. I would end up far too disorganized I think, and in the end I'd only end up writing something that will be lucky to be classified as half okay. I rather give all of myself to one project at a time. But my mind at the moment wants to throw ideas around for the other ideas kicking around in my head and on paper that need some development work.
So whether any of you get to read it or not I've decided to reaffirm the deadline I set for myself earlier of wanting to complete my current story by the end of the summer so I can start the school term in September knowing I've accomplished something personal on my time away from school and also feel the desire to edit/start the next story. I haven't decided if I'm going to go right into the following book or if I'm going to work on one of the offshoot short stories that I think will be interesting and won't be as time consuming.
So I have 2 months to complete my current work in progress. Hopefully I can do it.
